I love to just sit and watch Gracie sleep. I often find myself wondering what she is dreaming about. The other night, she woke me out of a deep sleep with the longest, slowest, deepest howl that went on for at least a minute. What subject could possibly have caused that?

Along with the noises, she is such an active sleeper (which is why she doesn’t sleep in our room with us). She barks, runs, woofs, twitches, chases, you name it. Because her legs are so long, she usually has a couple of them stretched out and hanging over whatever she is sleeping on. When they are hanging, most assuredly they are twitching. I love it.

It’s no secret that I am obsessed with the details of dogs and when I put on the 100mm Macro, it transports me into another world. As I was watching her paw last night, I decided to grab my camera and the SunPak Readylite. While the battery is short lived, it can be used in a variety of situations where you have low to minimal light. I stuck it on the floor directly under Gracie’s paw (hanging off the couch) and explored her paw.

I had shot for a good 10 minutes when the battery started to give out. When that happens, the light doesn’t just turn off, but slowly fades away. As it faded, the light mimicked the exact richness of a sunset, which resulted in these really rich colors! Not bad for a $30 light!

I am off to North Carolina this afternoon to shoot a few incredible dogs + their amazing Mama’s. I wonder what types of adventures I’ll run into while in the South. I can’t wait! Gracie has graciously turned her Twitter account over to me for the trip if you would like to follow along.

I’ll try to post updates, pictures, and maybe a video or two while I’m there. One thing is for sure, I will be having my very first Chick Fil A meal ever! I’m gladly taking suggestions on what I should get :)

I’ve been finding joy + beauty in the details lately. It iis those small, precious, little things all put together that make up the real beauty of a dog.

The Curls

As I was editing his images.
I got to thinking.
What was it exactly that made me fall in love with him?
Maybe it was the wiggly body.
Or the high energy.
Or the way he ran around with that funny piece of bark he found on a walk.
Or the way he looked at his Mom.
But then I saw this image and I thought.
I think it was the curls on his ears.
Yes, it was the curls for sure.
