Mercedes

I came out of retirement this weekend to shoot a family session. I was chatting with Mom a few weeks ago and she was mentioning that she was going to take her 6 month daughter down the street to a studio. She told me which one and I promptly replied with “Let me shoot your family”. I only shoot families if I offer and I don’t offer very often. I find them incredibly hard and strongly believe it is best to go to a photographer who specializes in families. I have a handful of amazing Seattle children photographers that I refer to regularly.

But their daughter is ADORABLE and their dog is their first child, so I was happy to do it.

Miss Mercedes is 7 and is part Beagle + part Cattle Dog. Mixed breeds fascinate me, especially Mercedes because you can clearly see both breeds.

Tomorrow I’ll show Audrey + Mercedes together. Hilarious!

The Red Wagon

A client of mine and I were chatting on the phone before her shoot and I don’t even know how the topic came up but as soon as she said the words “Red Wagon” I said “Yes Please!”

Red Wagon’s are just cool on their own, but Dogs in Red Wagon’s take it to a whole new level!

Also, the news is spinning about what breed of dog the Obama’s are going to choose for their white house addition. Since change is on the menu, isn’t it about time the large dogs were represented in the White House? My top choices are of course a Great Dane, Newfoundland, or Irish Wolfhound! I can’t wait to see what they end up with. Oh the photo possibilities!

Happy Howloween

The little dogs have all the fun when it comes to fashion. I am in full on panic mode now for Gracie’s Halloween costume. It is a safe bet that she will not fit into any costume made for dogs, because well, she is rather large chested (and proud of it!)

Last year I called my Mom and said “Can you dig through our old dance costumes and see if there is anything that Gracie can wear for Halloween?” She brought over my sisters softball jersey from jr. high. That was a joke. So I had to settle for some sequined leg warmers. That lasted about 1 minute. Maybe I’ll dress her in some of my clothes and she can be me for Halloween :)

Are they killing you with cuteness yet? Can you believe them? It’s too much. Everyone was stopping to oooh and ahhh over our little trick or treaters.

Flying Bentley

By nature of what I do, I always get asked if I have any funny stories to share from various client shoots. Sometimes it is hard for me to think of them off the top of my head, but when one happens, I say to myself “file this one away!”

The day was one of those incredibly gorgeous days in Seattle, a day that tricks many into moving to Seattle, only to be thrown into the depths of drizzle and fog for most of the fall, winter, and early spring. Beautiful yellow and red leaves everywhere, not a cloud in the sky, and people walking down the sidewalk smiling to themselves.

We met at a beautiful park in Bellevue complete with a gorgeous fountain.

Bentley, a Yorkshire Terrier, is just at a baby at 7 months old. We had been shooting for a bit when we put him down on the ground. All of a sudden he sees the ducks. Oh god, the ducks. The ducks are in the water. This teeny, tiny puppy, takes off after them, jumps a huge ledge and flies without abandon into the water. He has now experienced his first swim. He can swim! We pulled him out and see that he is a shivering mess. Luckily we had blankets to dry him off (and a Lion Halloween costume), but we were both in shock. You can’t plan those types of things. Things that aren’t funny at first and then when they sink in, they become something to look back and laugh at. I love that part of the job.

If things that like didn’t happen, then I wouldn’t end up with shots like this. Is he not the most adorable, sweetest, most traumatized little baby you have ever seen?

A family shot that I love. Meet Bentley’s older brother, Rover. Plus the ring that I MUST have. I love it.

Thank you to all of those that voted this past month for the Best of Western Washington contest. I am so honored to have won Evening Magazine’s Best Pet Photographer. Be sure to tune into Evening tonight to see what I was up to last week! They filmed me shooting the winnner of the ugliest dog contest. I HATE being filmed more than I hate having my picture taken. Hopefully I didn’t geek out too much.

Poochie

Poochie + her Tween owner are the very best of friends.

Poochie lives the charmed life. Let’s break it down. She is carried everywhere, sleeps in bed, and has designer clothes! What more could a girl want?

I haven’t had the chance to work with a tween yet and it was such a fun change!

More Tweens Please!
