Dog Photographer Erin Vey bio picture

Meet Erin Vey

I am a dog lover first.

A photographer second.

By some random chance of fate, I was able to combine the two loves into the coolest job ever: A Dog Photographer

I grew up in a family where dogs were always an integral part of our lives and most importantly, members of the family. Most of my childhood was spent with various Basset Hounds of the lovable but extremely stubborn variety. We never had less than 2 at any given time, sometimes 3, and the occasional stray that one of us would bring home for a visit.

After a short stint doing portrait work, which I still love, I realized my true calling is capturing the essence and personality of dogs. Upon reflection, I feel that my time doing portrait work was not wasted. Because of it, my experience with portrait work flows beautifully into working with people and their dogs.

My husband and I are owned by the fabulous Miss Gracie, a 5 year old Great Dane who brings energy and life into our house. You’ll see her around here a lot, she loves having her portrait taken (at least I like to think so).  She is a complete Diva and if you stick around long enough, you'll know what I'm talking about!

What an amazing adventure this has been so far. I’m so glad you are here experiencing it with me.

Late Summer Evenings

My husband, Gracie, and I are savoring the last few days of our “old” life before we happily greet our “new” life.

Last night we just hung out in the back yard and enjoyed a gorgeous summer evening. Taking pictures is not an easy task with a huge belly but I wanted to catch a few last shots of Gracie as an only child.

I love this shot. Every year the bee’s come to the lavender and Gracie spends hours nosing them. It doesn’t really bother me that neither are in focus, I can still feel what was going on here.

Stogey!

Laurie Luck, KPA CTP - Love that lavender/Gracie/bumble bee shot! I love all three: bees, Gracie, and the smell of lavender!

Victoria - Good luck and best wishes on your new adventure :)

donya - Good luck to you in your "new" life. I really love thinking back on the last few days my husband and I had in our "old" life, even though I love our "new" life just as much. It's a surreal feeling to think back on those days now, only 5.5 months ago! Can't wait to see the pictures of your little one. And more of Gracie of course too!

Shauna (Fido & Wino) - Beautiful shots! Before we brought our second dog home I remember feeling wistful that Mickey (dog #1) wasn't going to be an "only" dog anymore. Dog #1 & Dog #2 are good buddies- I needn't worried! Congratulations to you- you guys must be excited!

Erin - Heather I was wondering if someone would ask me about that :) I was shooting from the hip here, there is NO way I could lay on the ground...I would never be able to get back up! I put the camera on the ground, focused on Gracie, and then nestled it into the grass and snapped away! I just kept looking at the back of the LCD until I got what I wanted. Even THAT was painful :) Bending over isn't as easy as it once was!

Heather - O.M.G! Tell me you did not get ON THE GROUND for that one image - didjya put the camera down on the grass and click with your toes? I am 33 weeks today and if you are due anyday and got on the ground let alone semi on your belly - I AM IN AWE :) Awesome pictues, whether snapped with fingers or toes!

Gina P. - wishing you well on your 'new' life. i can vaguely remember my 'old' life, 3 boys later :) can't wait to see what you do with a baby and gracie!

Sergio Buss - How sweet!!!!! God bless you all as well as this new chapter of your lives. And, as always... gorgeous pictures!

Annie - I just love every single one of the pictures you take of Gracie. Your love for her really shows and make the photos even more beautiful. The demeaner she has in alot of the photos reminds me of my 1 yr old Dane; mine is so lazy and such a primadonna , I can't imagine how she's going to be years down the road! Thank you for sharing your amazing photos!
