Dog Photographer Erin Vey bio picture

Meet Erin Vey

I am a dog lover first.

A photographer second.

By some random chance of fate, I was able to combine the two loves into the coolest job ever: A Dog Photographer

I grew up in a family where dogs were always an integral part of our lives and most importantly, members of the family. Most of my childhood was spent with various Basset Hounds of the lovable but extremely stubborn variety. We never had less than 2 at any given time, sometimes 3, and the occasional stray that one of us would bring home for a visit.

After a short stint doing portrait work, which I still love, I realized my true calling is capturing the essence and personality of dogs. Upon reflection, I feel that my time doing portrait work was not wasted. Because of it, my experience with portrait work flows beautifully into working with people and their dogs.

My husband and I are owned by the fabulous Miss Gracie, a 5 year old Great Dane who brings energy and life into our house. You’ll see her around here a lot, she loves having her portrait taken (at least I like to think so).  She is a complete Diva and if you stick around long enough, you'll know what I'm talking about!

What an amazing adventure this has been so far. I’m so glad you are here experiencing it with me.

Dear Gracie

Kristie - Sweetest face ever and the sweetest little note!! Love this!! Love, love, love!!

kristie kulik - *sniff*

katie clay - This made me tear up. I've been telling Hank the same exact thing.

Kelli - As a SAHM to 2 dogs, my kids are older and in school, I love to come and look at Gracie's pictures. I'm practicing my photography skills and the dogs are my subjects. They will do almost anything for treat, whereas my kids want money and you can't always pay a kid to smile.

MAYBELLINE - Goodness. I love this pup.

Sergio Buss - How sweet! Beautiful growing family you have!!!

michelle - i just finished a wonderful family shoot with a 8 year old great dane, gracies twin i think. and they have a 8 month old little girl. their first love (dog) is doing great! only hiccup is now that baby is crawling to one of the many sleeping spots near the window. but their dog is seriously happy as ever just has to move to new sunny window spots a few more times a day! congrats on the baby girl coming. i can't wait to see gracie and her new little sister.

Laney Butler - So sweet, Erin! xoxo

Nicole - You are making me cry! We have our first on the way too and our furry little girl Brie seems to be sad at times. I feel the same as you though...Brie will always be our first baby!!!

Lynsey - Aww.. Gracie! You will be the best big sister, ever! Our pups are going through this as well as our first one is due Aug 31.

Betsy - I have a feeling that Gracie will adore Baby Vey and will be up for the new adventures to come.....new smells, new sounds, new activities, and a new sister to play and grow up with every day. This is a very sweet post Erin!

oneshotbeyond - If only it could be true! I hope it can be...but usually the dog is right in this case & there is plenty to be sad about, but only for the 1st 6 months. Then Gracie will have a little playmate to giggle at all her antics!!! :-)

Julianna Koh - T'aw! You'll be fine, Gracie - everyone loves you! (including my two guinea pigs and two cats who follow your adventures on your Mum's blog)

Karen - Yes, she may get a little sad at first. Our golden did with our first child--not because she wasn't getting attention, but because the newborn crying concerned her. I can't remember how long it took, but it wasn't long before she was sleeping through it though. Gracie will be a REALLY good big sister and will adjust quickly :)

Shauna (Fido & Wino blog) - Awww! I TOTALLY realize a pup isn't the same as a kid, but we felt a similar tug at our hearts for our first dog when we got our second dog. But our first pup gets just as much love and now he has a buddy! I agree with your other readers, I think Gracie will just end up getting more affection and a new playmate :)

Alice - Such sweet sentiments, and I just love this portrait! Give Grace some extra kisses for her all of us readers too!

Winnie Forbes Photography - I got all choked up just reading this...

Andrea - I totally love this! And I agree wholeheartedly. We just had our first baby 16 days ago and I'm here to report my pup, Bailey is still my baby as well. Sure, he's had to adjust a bit but my husband and I still smother him in kisses every chance we get. My heart does not stop loving a dog simply because I begin to love another human being.

Laura - Erin - We just lost our first baby a few weeks ago. Having a baby will make you love Gracie that much more.

Julie - Oh dear...I'm crying now. I too worry about how my pups will feel when we have kids....and it makes me so sad.

Kim Hayes - awwww. gracie will be the best big sister ever! this got me choked up a little, though. ;-)

Charlotte Reeves - Awww Gracie, we love you!! Just like your new little sister is going to as well! xx

azjenny - Erin, when we had our first baby our 2 labs were one year old. Everyone told us they would become less important to us, and our children would rob them of our attention. I am happy to report this is not true. We give our dogs as much love and attention as they ever got, perhaps more. We are all one happy family. Gracie (and you) will do just fine.

Gina - Aww! This breaks my heart. We're getting ready to go through the same thing at the end of June. I hope my two puppies understand!
