Dog Photographer Erin Vey bio picture

Meet Erin Vey

I am a dog lover first.

A photographer second.

By some random chance of fate, I was able to combine the two loves into the coolest job ever: A Dog Photographer

I grew up in a family where dogs were always an integral part of our lives and most importantly, members of the family. Most of my childhood was spent with various Basset Hounds of the lovable but extremely stubborn variety. We never had less than 2 at any given time, sometimes 3, and the occasional stray that one of us would bring home for a visit.

After a short stint doing portrait work, which I still love, I realized my true calling is capturing the essence and personality of dogs. Upon reflection, I feel that my time doing portrait work was not wasted. Because of it, my experience with portrait work flows beautifully into working with people and their dogs.

My husband and I are owned by the fabulous Miss Gracie, a 5 year old Great Dane who brings energy and life into our house. You’ll see her around here a lot, she loves having her portrait taken (at least I like to think so).  She is a complete Diva and if you stick around long enough, you'll know what I'm talking about!

What an amazing adventure this has been so far. I’m so glad you are here experiencing it with me.

More Christmas Eve

A few more from our impromptu, 10 minute, Christmas Eve shoot.

I lied in my previous post whenI said she was waiting for Santa. She was really waiting for her favorite person in the entire world: Grammy :)

I think these shots are probably some of my favorite of the Gracers for 2009.

Mandy Jill - I love the third shot! The light from the tree is so crisp and beautiful in all the shots too.

Trude - I'm totally in love with that unfocused shot of her in silhouette against the tree!! Loooove it. Apparently I need to get all white lights so I can play like that next year. :)

Julie Frame - Just beautiful. Love all the sparkling lights surrounding Gracie on the windows, table, and pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Kimberly - Beautiful. I love the light.

Erin - Love the sillouhette in the Xmas tree photo! My dog's (Remy) favorite person in the world is HIS grammy too! Happy new year!!

jane - I love, Love, LOVE that last photo. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful Gracie with us. Happy Holidays!

Melinda - Everyone in the world loves their Granny!!! I could cry with joy with every photo you post....

Karen - I.LOVE.THESE!!!! I have a camera but I am not a pro just a dog lover and mom. I come to your blog everyday for inspiration. I think that silhouette of Gracie with the circley bokeh is one of the coolest dog pictures I have ever seen!!! The others rock too!

Liz - However did you get the tree to glow like that?!? AMAZING light. beautiful shots!

Jennie - Erin, Thanks! I have the 50D for now. I cant WAIT to get my hands on the 5D! When I shoot high ISO with my camera I always get grainy pics. I will keep my mind open to the possibilities of high ISO. must be my lens (50 mm). Such a GREAT picture!

Maribeth - Wow! amazing pics! Love every one of them!

Colleen - I can't get over the fact that you shot this at ISO 3200 and there is no noise to be seen!! Incredible!! *Note to self: get a better camera ;) Really gorgeous pictures Erin, I find your photography so inspiring!

Jenny J - someone is putting her lens to great use! these are gorgeous, erin. you make a good case for white tree lights (no crazy color casts!) personal faves are the silhouetted image and Gracie with her paw on the windowsil.

MAYBELLINE - Oh my gosh!

crissie - Your pics just make me smile every day. I love them!

CJ - What a wonderful set of images! I especially love the bottom one where Gracie has her paw up and is smiling in recognition of Santa (or Gramma). Happy New Year to you and Gracie and your husband - thank you for the sharing of your images and knowledge. I hope that 2010 will be profitable, enjoyable, and filled with love and laughter.

Shauna (Fido & Wino blog) - I love how shiny and sparkly the tree is! Christmas... *sigh*... :)

Kim - That second shot of Grace is pure magic.

Erin - Jennie - Our tree is 9 feet and is BLAZING with lights. I mean the thing lights our our neighborhood and I'm not kidding. So that helps a lot. My camera settings are really what helped here. I shot at ISO 3200, f/1.6, 1/125. Being able to shoot at 1.6 at ISO 3200 is what really allowed me to soak in all the extra ambient light. It would have been virtually impossible to get this shot last year with my Canon 5D. The 5DMKII high ISO capabilities have served me very well this year!

Amy P - I've been reading and enjoying your blog now for right at a year. I so enjoyed the pics of "G" last year in the snow and in front of your beautiful tree. I was glad to see them again this year. Beautiful, as all your pics are!!! Happy New Year

Jennie - How did you do that? did you have a lighting source? I tried this over and over and could not get it! the lights never come out well. Great job Erin!!!!!!!
