Dog Photographer Erin Vey bio picture

Meet Erin Vey

I am a dog lover first.

A photographer second.

By some random chance of fate, I was able to combine the two loves into the coolest job ever: A Dog Photographer

I grew up in a family where dogs were always an integral part of our lives and most importantly, members of the family. Most of my childhood was spent with various Basset Hounds of the lovable but extremely stubborn variety. We never had less than 2 at any given time, sometimes 3, and the occasional stray that one of us would bring home for a visit.

After a short stint doing portrait work, which I still love, I realized my true calling is capturing the essence and personality of dogs. Upon reflection, I feel that my time doing portrait work was not wasted. Because of it, my experience with portrait work flows beautifully into working with people and their dogs.

My husband and I are owned by the fabulous Miss Gracie, a 5 year old Great Dane who brings energy and life into our house. You’ll see her around here a lot, she loves having her portrait taken (at least I like to think so).  She is a complete Diva and if you stick around long enough, you'll know what I'm talking about!

What an amazing adventure this has been so far. I’m so glad you are here experiencing it with me.

On the Mend

I wanted to pop in here and let everyone know that I am, indeed, still alive. If you’ve been following me on Twitter or Facebook, you’ll already know that I had surgery last Wednesday and the recovery was a lot more brutal than I thought. But I’m happy to say that I’m finally on the mend and anxious to pick up my camera again.

Gracie is also fully recovered from her teeth cleaning/lump removal surgery a few weeks ago. Funny, she never once licked the 16 stitches in her leg but we could not get the girl to stop licking the spot where her IV was. Here she is obsessing over it.

janel - oh dear, sounds like you and Gracie both had alot of healing this past year. i remember when i had an iv that the site was very itchy...so that could be the reason she went at it, but i'd assume the the stitches would be driving her crazy so who knows. she is such a beautiful girl. sooo glad that your mom was able to catch it in time and help her to the vet...so glad to see you doing so well Gracie!! and you as well Erin. hope that you are healing well.

Emma Lundbladh - Ha ha funny! My dog Jaxon did exactly the same thing after he had been castrated. Could not stop licking at his arm where the IV had been sitting! Love your site, and cuite Gracie! From sweden, Emma and ridgeback Jaxon

Alette - Glad to read you and Grace are doing OK. Take your time and thanks for sharing Gracie's photo :) She's a dear Alette

Joyce - So glad to hear that you are both on the mend. Have been thinking of you lately.

Tracy - Awww... glad you are both on the mend - I've missed your daily photos! :o)

Christine - yay, glad to hear it's all over and done with and was a success! and good to see gracie back as new! :) ps love the colors in this shot... they're GLORIOUS!

Liz - Hope you and Gracie feel better soon. I LOVE the blue colours in this photo - simply beautiful.

Sergio Buss - Just saw this on Flickr! Really stunning! Get well soon. We are all waiting for some more fantastic shots.

johnwaire | photo - sweet sweet light!!!!

Erin - I looked everywhere for a leftover can of paint from The Blue Room (as we call it) but can not find the name. But I did find the name I have in my office and it is Benjamin Moore Wedgewood Gray. One step down from that is Van Courtland Blue but I'm not sure that is what we used.

Andrea - Beautiful capture! I'm sure you've answered this before, but I'm wondering what that blue paint is? It's so dreamy! Thanks!

Kelsey - Yay, you're still alive! I hope you're feeling great and are up and running soon. :) Gracie looks so sweet in that picture. Madison - our first greyhound - would obsess over her IV spot, too, and would lick it raw. I wonder why they do that? Hmm. Anyway, she looks like a good girl, I hope she has been keeping you company while you recuperate!
