Dog Photographer Erin Vey bio picture

Meet Erin Vey

I am a dog lover first.

A photographer second.

By some random chance of fate, I was able to combine the two loves into the coolest job ever: A Dog Photographer

I grew up in a family where dogs were always an integral part of our lives and most importantly, members of the family. Most of my childhood was spent with various Basset Hounds of the lovable but extremely stubborn variety. We never had less than 2 at any given time, sometimes 3, and the occasional stray that one of us would bring home for a visit.

After a short stint doing portrait work, which I still love, I realized my true calling is capturing the essence and personality of dogs. Upon reflection, I feel that my time doing portrait work was not wasted. Because of it, my experience with portrait work flows beautifully into working with people and their dogs.

My husband and I are owned by the fabulous Miss Gracie, a 5 year old Great Dane who brings energy and life into our house. You’ll see her around here a lot, she loves having her portrait taken (at least I like to think so).  She is a complete Diva and if you stick around long enough, you'll know what I'm talking about!

What an amazing adventure this has been so far. I’m so glad you are here experiencing it with me.

Freaky Friday

If I am forced to say it, I guess winter can sometimes be a good thing for me because it pushes me to find or create light when there is none to be found.

After a long summer’s nap, I got my Pocket Wizard’s & 580EX out to see if they still actually worked. I was messing around with a few techniques for another project when Gracie decided to be extra cute and lay in the middle of the stairs (like she used to when she was a puppy and actually fit there).

It was pitch dark out and fall was in the air so I went with the inspired Halloween vibe and tried to make Gracie extra spooky. Did it work?

Spooky Gray

Marly - There is an eeriness to these photographs that I really love. The first photo makes me think of an intruder who was walked in on a quiet house and here is this dog waiting to protect everyone. It would be enough to make me want to turn around and run...but then again, I'm not the "intruder" type!

Rachel - These are cool and very different.

Elle - Just found your blog! What wonderful photos, thank you so much for sharing them and I can't wait to see more of your work!

Christine - Gracie could NEVER look spooky - but I dig the Halloween vibes and I'm loving the shadows in that first shot! You are so clever! :)

Karrie Baker - How could that sweet baby every be spooky? She is such a doll! :)

MAYBELLINE - It looks like a 1930s shoot of a film star. How glamorous.

Betsy - Ooooh I SO want to meet Gracie in person! Will you bring her to Pennsylvania? Puh-leeze! :-)

Charlotte Reeves - Ha! The backlight around her lips in the first shot absolutely makes it.

Laurie Luck, KPA CTP - As spooky as a sweet girl can manage. She's sweeter than she is spooky. ;)

Bethany - Great technique, but Miss Gracie is way too cute to EVER be spooky! That dog is SO incredibly gorgeous.

Jill - I just bought my 580EX and I'm excited to try it out!

Margaret - Worked AWESOME! Doesn't even need any of those spooky sound effects. Gracie is a super model.

Steve Dahlgren - If I was breaking into your house and saw that...I'd be scared!

Melissa - Rocked it.

Karen - Awww, I don't think Gracie could ever be spooky, she's always too adorable! Great Halloween image.
