Dog Photographer Erin Vey bio picture

Meet Erin Vey

I am a dog lover first.

A photographer second.

By some random chance of fate, I was able to combine the two loves into the coolest job ever: A Dog Photographer

I grew up in a family where dogs were always an integral part of our lives and most importantly, members of the family. Most of my childhood was spent with various Basset Hounds of the lovable but extremely stubborn variety. We never had less than 2 at any given time, sometimes 3, and the occasional stray that one of us would bring home for a visit.

After a short stint doing portrait work, which I still love, I realized my true calling is capturing the essence and personality of dogs. Upon reflection, I feel that my time doing portrait work was not wasted. Because of it, my experience with portrait work flows beautifully into working with people and their dogs.

My husband and I are owned by the fabulous Miss Gracie, a 5 year old Great Dane who brings energy and life into our house. You’ll see her around here a lot, she loves having her portrait taken (at least I like to think so).  She is a complete Diva and if you stick around long enough, you'll know what I'm talking about!

What an amazing adventure this has been so far. I’m so glad you are here experiencing it with me.

Tuxes & Tails

The 20th Annual Tuxes & Tails is happening this Saturday, May 9 in the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Seattle Hotel! It’s Seattle’s most “barked about” charity event of the year, featuring a Celebrity and Pet Fashion Show and a dazzling selection of items in our live and silent auctions. Attendees will enjoy a memorable evening as 40 local personalities walk the catwalk in our Celebrity & Pet Fashion Show with their own pet or with one of our shelter guests who is available for adoption. Other delights will include a delicious four-course dinner, four silent auction sections, and a live auction featuring 50 amazing items.

One of the reasons you never see shelter work from me is because I physically + mentally can’t do it. It kills me. I feel guilty every day that I can’t go in and photograph the dogs but I just can’t do it. What I do try to do is donate or volunteer in any other way to make up for it. So I am totally thrilled to be able to donate my time to shoot all 12 dogs this year for the 2010 Humane Society Calendar. Each month is up for bidding at the auction. I can’t wait!

If you can’t make it to the event, then be sure to order a calendar for next year!

Marilyn Keys - We will be there next weekend! Perhaps we will bid on a spot in the calendar for Chopper... :) Thanks for donating your time Erin!

Cheryle - What a great opportunity! I agree - shelter work is just way too hard, I give those guys tons of credit. This calendar is guaranteed to be incredible!

Bob - Dog calendars that don't have the same tired old studio photos as every other dog calendar are the Best Thing Evar! It should be a really fun project to be involved with.

Liz - What a great name for an event!

carson - What a fabulous donation you are making to this event and the organization! Sure to raise a TON of money.

Becky - I love this idea! (Each month is up for bidding)
