Dog Photographer Erin Vey bio picture

Meet Erin Vey

I am a dog lover first.

A photographer second.

By some random chance of fate, I was able to combine the two loves into the coolest job ever: A Dog Photographer

I grew up in a family where dogs were always an integral part of our lives and most importantly, members of the family. Most of my childhood was spent with various Basset Hounds of the lovable but extremely stubborn variety. We never had less than 2 at any given time, sometimes 3, and the occasional stray that one of us would bring home for a visit.

After a short stint doing portrait work, which I still love, I realized my true calling is capturing the essence and personality of dogs. Upon reflection, I feel that my time doing portrait work was not wasted. Because of it, my experience with portrait work flows beautifully into working with people and their dogs.

My husband and I are owned by the fabulous Miss Gracie, a 5 year old Great Dane who brings energy and life into our house. You’ll see her around here a lot, she loves having her portrait taken (at least I like to think so).  She is a complete Diva and if you stick around long enough, you'll know what I'm talking about!

What an amazing adventure this has been so far. I’m so glad you are here experiencing it with me.

Thank You

Gracie + I had no idea the amount of well wishes she would receive. Thank you so much to everyone who left her some love yesterday. We sat on the couch together and I read them to her. She was so thrilled. She is doing very well and already has an appointment to get her staples out next Friday.

I also wanted to say a very special thank you to Seattle Veterinary Services who were incredibly amazing and helpful with my Mom and the quick decisions she had to make. They have also been so patient and kind with my calls and questions. Luckily we were able to cover her surgery, but it was not cheap. I can’t imagine the heartbreak that some face because they can’t cover the surgery.

If you have enjoyed Gracie and her crazy moments over the years, she would love it if you might consider making a donation to The Scout Fund, which SVS set up to help owners that might not be able to afford the expense of emergency surgery. I think I overheard Gracie saying that she might make her own donation as well!

Here is Gracie + Grammy last year.

Debbie - Gracie- We have been following you since we lost our own fawn Great Dane (Belle) to bloat. We could not afford the surgery and had to make the horrendous decision to have her put down. We now have a black Great Dane (Delilah) that we rescued! You are so loved by so many that have never met you!! We continue to watch you and your family. Happy for you Erin and kudos to Grammy!!

kim hayes - get better soon gracie!! we need to go out and take some pic's!!

Julie - Wonderful news about Gracie, and fantastic photos!

Jules - Absolutely lovely pictures. Gracie brings out the beautiful spirit in Grammy. I love a woman that can kiss her furry grand-dog full on the lips! They're both beautiful and you've captured it. I'm glad Gracie is healing well. Love your blog.

karrie baker - Sigh...I love these photos of Gracie and Grammy. I will definitely be making a donation to this wonderful cause. Thank you for posting it!!

Leah Mullett - Erin, I read the bloating link you put on your last post and of course DOBERMANS is one of them ... I read the symptoms but just curious how your mom knew? What was gracie doing? I'm just curious because that makes me nervous!!!!

Wendy - Erin, I too have a passion for dogs and photography, which is what prompted a friend to email me a link to your website 3 weeks ago. She hoped it would inspire me and make me laugh. It did and I instantly became addicted. :0) Your work is amazing and so is Gracie! I am so very happy to hear that all went well with Gracie's surgery and that she's home already and well on her way to recovery. Thank you for sharing a small part of your life and your work with us....and thanks to Gracie for being the perfect model! Big hugs to Gracie and Grammy! Take care.

Lori - Oh my Gracie~you are the luckiest great dane to have a great grammy who had such a good eye! My Sammy boy had bloat at the age of 3 and he had the same surgery you just had...and he is still kickin' at 12! The photos of you with your special hero are adoring! Best to you in your full recovery Ms. G!

Cheryl - Erin, I love your blog. Really, I wish we were closer so that I could see what you could do with my love Darcy. What I really want to know is...would Gracie's Grammy like to adopt a full grown human type with a beautiful lab mix? She's great! I love these photos.

~Kristina - Grammy & Gracie pics make this girl a blubbery mess :) So happy for everyone that things so far have gone well. Cheers to Grammy! Cheers to Gracie! and Double Cheers to you, Erin, for sharing them with the world!!

Stephanie - I am SO glad that Gracie is doing well. Thank goodness for Grammy! Your mother is SO beautiful! Hugs for Gracie <3

Lynda - I'm so very happy that Ms. Gracie made it.. I lost my most treasured baby boy Sebastion to Bloat.. I had never heard of it and wasn't aware of it when we got him.. It's been since '98 since he's been gone but it's still fresh in my mind.. It's my torement that we was one of many who couldn't afford that kind of surgery for him.. But the Dr. Said he was to far gone and he may not have made it any way.. Bless Ms. Gracie girl I'm so very happy your still around, I can't wait to see more of your beautiful photos. Your such a beautiful gal.. Bless your grammy and mom an dad to..

Amy - I'm glad Gracie enjoyed her well wishes. My Gracie dog loved for me to read to her too! Her favorite book was the 'Great Gracie Chase' by Cynthia Rylant. I'd like to think that she loved the great story, but really I think she just loved hearing her name throughout the story.

Michelle - Gracie- We are so happy to hear you are recovering after your surgery...you are so lucky to have such a sharp Grammie! Hugs and Kissses!

Shayla Vokey - I wasn't quick enough to add my well wishes to her yesterday, please read her ours today! Although Stella, Miller and Princess don't know Gracie, they love to watch her on my monitor! Take care and don't lick!!
