Dog Photographer Erin Vey bio picture

Meet Erin Vey

I am a dog lover first.

A photographer second.

By some random chance of fate, I was able to combine the two loves into the coolest job ever: A Dog Photographer

I grew up in a family where dogs were always an integral part of our lives and most importantly, members of the family. Most of my childhood was spent with various Basset Hounds of the lovable but extremely stubborn variety. We never had less than 2 at any given time, sometimes 3, and the occasional stray that one of us would bring home for a visit.

After a short stint doing portrait work, which I still love, I realized my true calling is capturing the essence and personality of dogs. Upon reflection, I feel that my time doing portrait work was not wasted. Because of it, my experience with portrait work flows beautifully into working with people and their dogs.

My husband and I are owned by the fabulous Miss Gracie, a 5 year old Great Dane who brings energy and life into our house. You’ll see her around here a lot, she loves having her portrait taken (at least I like to think so).  She is a complete Diva and if you stick around long enough, you'll know what I'm talking about!

What an amazing adventure this has been so far. I’m so glad you are here experiencing it with me.

You Know

I am adding a new category titled “You Know” which can be translated to “You Know You’re a Dog Lover When…”

My first one is:

You know you’re a dog lover when … “You think your dog rolling in dead things (or possibly some form of urine) is impossibly cute.”

Alternative title might be “What I did with my Flip Video at the dog park when my laptop (Macula) was held hostage at the Mac store for 1 week even though the part was in stock”.

Gracie at Dog Park from Erin Vey on Vimeo.

And if, by chance, you heard some weird buzzing sound in the video, then I should tell you that there is a special section of the park reserved especially for model airplanes. And they were extremely active the day I shot this. I just thought you should know.

Becky - My puppy does this on all of her toys! It cracks me up!

jennifer - hilarious!!! i wonder what she was rolling in? i really miss the "dane" gallop!! :)

Emily Beaty - How funny! Our lab does the same thing! And yes, it's "impossibly cute." lol

Dodie - Loved it! And I had to check out whether or not she did a head-to-toe shake when she was done, just like Chance does. Yep! Must be a dog thing?????

jennifer kitrosser - wow - those long, lanky legs just flail (sp?) around while she is on her back. i love it! come here gracie, give me some xoxo's ;)

Jenny - So great to see Gracie moving around after looking at her in pictures so long. She's a beautiful girl. My black lab Tex is always rolling in things like this too!

Amy - HAA! Her technique is the same as our dane, shoulder first straight into the smelly stuff. The more I see/meet other danes I'm amazed at how similar all their idiosyncrasies are so similar!

Kim Hayes - rolling in dead things is all fun and games until you forget and go in for a big doggie hug awhile later. thanks for that all-to-recent memory, lincoln.

Stacey - Ohmigosh! I gotta say, I'm a huuuge dog lover but always immediately rush to stop the dogs from doing that! Without a doubt, it always results in me having to live with stinky fish smell for a week - or bathe them, which, for the husky mix, is a full-day process. Lucky for us, though, both dogs tend to roll around in clean grass and snow every day just for fun (we can tell the difference) - and YES, that is cute! Thanks for the fun video though!

Jennifer - they are cute as they enjoy the roll. However I have to say from experience (three times!)cleaning the rotten eggs off of ours afterwards is not so cute.

Melissa - YES! It is adorable! And from the looks of things they all do it about the same - head first. It's fun to see Gracie "live" for a change!

Shannon Williamsonut - It's only cute when they come up clean. When they come out of the bushes COVERED in bear poop (or something that produces BIG poo) and you have to drive them home with your head sticking out the window because they smell so bad, it's not cute anymore. And yes, we are talking about Gracie's best friend/cousin Winston.

andrea - I have two huskies, who regularly roll in rotten apples, wild animal poo, and whatever other smelly thing there is in our back yard. i had another husky before, who escaped and like gracie, found a fish carcass and created her own new perfume, "eau de peeeew"!

Lauren - I am in LOVE with Gracie. My Sam won't even walk in the center of our yard lest any "center of the yard" grass touch his feet. He's a little dainty.

Haley - Too cute! Let me tell you, if my Char saw model airplanes flying around, she would be wondering how to get to those funny-shaped, odd-flight-pattern-bestowed frisbees! lol! Gracie looks so happy in the video; she must have really found a great scent!

Erin - I think this characteristic alone clearly separates those who love dogs and those who don't into 2 very distinct categories. Although, I have to admit, the time she rolled in a dead fish carcass kind of sicked me out a bit.

lyndsay - oh my, our dog comes in every afternoon COVERED in dead grass. she cracks me up!
