So sorry to hear about Venus the beautiful great dane…I hope he recovers quickly! My 12 yr old boxer Sammy had bloat twice when he was young and had to have emergency surgery. They ended up sewing his stomach to his side to prevent it from twisting as he hasn’t had a problem since! I do remember how terrified I was but now look back and am thankful I was able to get him in good hands quickly!

It is always a relief to me when I hear that somebody else understands how terrifying bloat is in dogs. Very few people seem to understand. My husband and I have two Doberman, and, as with Great Danes, bloat is a very real threat. We actually have to feed our boys four meals a day (they are vaccuums!) because their abdomens are so sensitive to the way they inhale their food and water. We have to break food and water up into many small portions.
