Dog Photographer Erin Vey bio picture

Meet Erin Vey

I am a dog lover first.

A photographer second.

By some random chance of fate, I was able to combine the two loves into the coolest job ever: A Dog Photographer

I grew up in a family where dogs were always an integral part of our lives and most importantly, members of the family. Most of my childhood was spent with various Basset Hounds of the lovable but extremely stubborn variety. We never had less than 2 at any given time, sometimes 3, and the occasional stray that one of us would bring home for a visit.

After a short stint doing portrait work, which I still love, I realized my true calling is capturing the essence and personality of dogs. Upon reflection, I feel that my time doing portrait work was not wasted. Because of it, my experience with portrait work flows beautifully into working with people and their dogs.

My husband and I are owned by the fabulous Miss Gracie, a 5 year old Great Dane who brings energy and life into our house. You’ll see her around here a lot, she loves having her portrait taken (at least I like to think so).  She is a complete Diva and if you stick around long enough, you'll know what I'm talking about!

What an amazing adventure this has been so far. I’m so glad you are here experiencing it with me.

Studio Wrap Up

Hey party people, tomorrow is the last day to enter the contest! If you are a professional procrastinator (like me) knock it out today or tomorrow!

I upgraded to CS4 this weekend and am enjoying some of the new features. Give me a little more time to work in it and I’ll post what I like and don’t like about it.

Please send all your good thoughts to Anna Kuperberg today. Her precious Venus (a Great Dane) bloated, had surgery, and is now in recovery. Bloat is my biggest fear with Gracie and is a very scary thing. Get well Venus!

Let’s wrap up the studio work from this past weekend with Miss Gracie on white paper.

We’re big fans of the flying lips around here. Dane owners know exactly what I’m talking about :)

Lori Guess - So sorry to hear about Venus the beautiful great dane...I hope he recovers quickly! My 12 yr old boxer Sammy had bloat twice when he was young and had to have emergency surgery. They ended up sewing his stomach to his side to prevent it from twisting as he hasn't had a problem since! I do remember how terrified I was but now look back and am thankful I was able to get him in good hands quickly!

Jen VanSuydam - It is always a relief to me when I hear that somebody else understands how terrifying bloat is in dogs. Very few people seem to understand. My husband and I have two Doberman, and, as with Great Danes, bloat is a very real threat. We actually have to feed our boys four meals a day (they are vaccuums!) because their abdomens are so sensitive to the way they inhale their food and water. We have to break food and water up into many small portions.

Anna Kuperberg - Thanks Erin. So sweet of you to mention Venus on your blog. Gracie looks gorgeous, as always.

Sheri V - ohh gracie you are beautiful !

Kristina - Seriously sexy B&W leg.

Melissa - Can't wait to hear your CS4 thoughts.. Love Gracie on white!

sabrina - AWESOME! seriously great work i love them all!

kristie kulik - this is one of those posts where as I scroll down I say "that is my favorite" "no! THAT is my favorite" "oh wait...maybe this one is.."! I love these!

Sheona - What a star...! Have a great week-end Gracie!
