Dog Photographer Erin Vey bio picture

Meet Erin Vey

I am a dog lover first.

A photographer second.

By some random chance of fate, I was able to combine the two loves into the coolest job ever: A Dog Photographer

I grew up in a family where dogs were always an integral part of our lives and most importantly, members of the family. Most of my childhood was spent with various Basset Hounds of the lovable but extremely stubborn variety. We never had less than 2 at any given time, sometimes 3, and the occasional stray that one of us would bring home for a visit.

After a short stint doing portrait work, which I still love, I realized my true calling is capturing the essence and personality of dogs. Upon reflection, I feel that my time doing portrait work was not wasted. Because of it, my experience with portrait work flows beautifully into working with people and their dogs.

My husband and I are owned by the fabulous Miss Gracie, a 5 year old Great Dane who brings energy and life into our house. You’ll see her around here a lot, she loves having her portrait taken (at least I like to think so).  She is a complete Diva and if you stick around long enough, you'll know what I'm talking about!

What an amazing adventure this has been so far. I’m so glad you are here experiencing it with me.

Basset’s + Terriers + Danes

I must be the only person left to have not discovered The Pioneer Woman. I received an email a few weeks ago that mentioned I should check her out because she has a Basset Hound! OMG! For those of you that don’t know, I grew up with them my entire childhood and they are my very slightly second love when it comes to breeds, with the Great Dane being first, of course. She posted some images of Charlie today and please leave this blog immediately to go check him out. He is the perfect Basset. Wrinkles abound.

How cute are these little babies? Don’t you just love all that graffiti in the background?

Ok, just one more, because it’s Friday.

Miss G and I were in the studio again this week. I wanted to show my behind the scenes studio shot because I subscribe to the train of thought that you don’t need to spend a lot of money, or be in a fancy studio, to get a killer shot. I refer to it as my ghetto garage studio. Don’t you love the duct tape?

Kristi - Erin...your creativity just constantly leaves me absolutely speechless!! you are sooooo good!

wrecklessgirl - i adore the shot on the top right with the doggie angel bg....so perfect.

Mia 'thousandhound' - Wow...I love those first photos. The grungy urban scenes are right up my alley (so to speak) and the ones taken in the home look really classic. The two on the chair look like something out of a magazine. I'm going to have to say this series is one of my favourites from you EVER! Big call I know.

sonia - I LOVE LOVE LOVE the 2 photos in the middle!!! how do you make such a perfect photo of such a little perfect dog!! I just LOVE it expecially that one on the right!!! I think I'm going to kiss and pet the screen of my laptop!!!!;-)

Emilee - The Pioneer Woman is amazing. I'm addicted to her site, I go on it a minimum of 10 times a day! You've gotta try some of her recipes, they do not disappoint! I love those 2 shots of the little terrier in the chair!

paperdiva - My Russell turns his head away when I try to take his picture all the time! And I love PW. She is too funny!

Frances - Hi Erin, Basset hounds are fun. My brother has one named Bean. Sooo much personality, He's sweet one minute then being a bully to his brother Decaf a Beagal the next. He's great with my 1yo nephew too. I love your ghetto studio it looks like mine except cleaner.
