Dog Photographer Erin Vey bio picture

Meet Erin Vey

I am a dog lover first.

A photographer second.

By some random chance of fate, I was able to combine the two loves into the coolest job ever: A Dog Photographer

I grew up in a family where dogs were always an integral part of our lives and most importantly, members of the family. Most of my childhood was spent with various Basset Hounds of the lovable but extremely stubborn variety. We never had less than 2 at any given time, sometimes 3, and the occasional stray that one of us would bring home for a visit.

After a short stint doing portrait work, which I still love, I realized my true calling is capturing the essence and personality of dogs. Upon reflection, I feel that my time doing portrait work was not wasted. Because of it, my experience with portrait work flows beautifully into working with people and their dogs.

My husband and I are owned by the fabulous Miss Gracie, a 5 year old Great Dane who brings energy and life into our house. You’ll see her around here a lot, she loves having her portrait taken (at least I like to think so).  She is a complete Diva and if you stick around long enough, you'll know what I'm talking about!

What an amazing adventure this has been so far. I’m so glad you are here experiencing it with me.

This and That

This shot of Gracie, taken in April of 2006 is hands down one of my most popular images and a personal favorite. Can you see the remote? I didn’t even put that there on purpose! Hilarious!

The Holiday Card email went out to all my clients this week. If you are a past client and did not get the email, please let me know and I will send you the link! Holiday Cards are so fun!

My goodness I have been getting a lot of emails from people wanting to add dog photography to their list of services. Of course I am biased, I think photographing dogs is the coolest thing in the entire world. But getting yourself up and running can be incredibly difficult. I have had a handful of requests from people asking if I would consider offering a workshop. I’ll be honest. Workshops are extremely hard work, logistically it is next to impossible to pull it off so that you address the mass audience, teach to all levels, and please everyone. I have taught privately in the past and have found it to be a very successful method for both me and the student. To that end I *might* be willing to open myself up to teaching 1:1 but am still pondering the pros and cons. The jury is still out!

Jill - Dooo it Erin. Please? :)

karen - I love the picture of Gracie. I get so much inspiration from your blog. Thank you!

Emilee - I love this Gracie shot! It's hilarious, especially with the remote! A workshop or 1:1 teaching sounds like it would be awesome. I agree with you that getting up & runnig is very difficult. It's especially tough setting a business up with the economy the way it is...

Andrew - I think you should consider it. But I am biased as well, my wife and I would love to get an excuse to travel from Dallas to the northwest.

haley lamb - i think it's a good idea!! but, i'm a little biased as well....i want to be your student!
