Dog Photographer Erin Vey bio picture

Meet Erin Vey

I am a dog lover first.

A photographer second.

By some random chance of fate, I was able to combine the two loves into the coolest job ever: A Dog Photographer

I grew up in a family where dogs were always an integral part of our lives and most importantly, members of the family. Most of my childhood was spent with various Basset Hounds of the lovable but extremely stubborn variety. We never had less than 2 at any given time, sometimes 3, and the occasional stray that one of us would bring home for a visit.

After a short stint doing portrait work, which I still love, I realized my true calling is capturing the essence and personality of dogs. Upon reflection, I feel that my time doing portrait work was not wasted. Because of it, my experience with portrait work flows beautifully into working with people and their dogs.

My husband and I are owned by the fabulous Miss Gracie, a 5 year old Great Dane who brings energy and life into our house. You’ll see her around here a lot, she loves having her portrait taken (at least I like to think so).  She is a complete Diva and if you stick around long enough, you'll know what I'm talking about!

What an amazing adventure this has been so far. I’m so glad you are here experiencing it with me.

10 Things That Make Me Happy

[ Don’t forget to enter the contest to win a free shoot with Erin anywhere in the United States! ]

One of my favorite magazines (Domino) has a section in the very back called 10 Things That Make Me Happy and I always look forward to seeing what they have that month. So I thought I would pass on the favor this Friday and share with you 10 things that make me happy. I think I might even add it as a new category in case I want to do it again.

Word of mouth is a powerful thing and I always love sharing my latest ‘finds’ with friends. My friend Melissa is constantly draining my bank account with random emails that I get saying “You need this”. And she’s right…I usually do need them!

1) Of course #1 has to be a subscription to Domino Magazine! I get a lot of my design inspiration from them.

2) After watching The Rachel Zoe Project (yes I watch it) and seeing her absolute passion for fashion, I realized I am not passionate for fashion at all. I live in active-wear. If you do too, then you will love this Sweater/Fleece from North Face. It is to die for comfortable and has my favorite feature THUMB HOLES!

3) Are you looking for a more fashionable yet durable reusable bag? Maybe for groceries, a beach bag, or a weekend away? I love this reusable bag my sister got me last year. I have one in Green and Red. You can buy them at the Container Store.

4) I’m absolutely addicted to my favorite candle holder, the Glassy Baby. They are local to Seattle and were featured on the Martha Stewart show a few years ago. The founder has an incredible story and they are literally one of a kind works of art. If you are in Seattle you can visit one of their shops and watch them hand blow the babies in person.

5) The Furminator. It doesn’t have just a cool name … this thing works. I love it. You can pick it up at PetSmart.

6) I think these Nina shoes speak for themselves

7) These handmade albums from Uncommon Goods (for dog AND cat lovers) are so gorgeous. I think I have looked at them no less than 10 times online. Why haven’t I ordered one yet? I think I’ll go do that right now.

8) Miss Tara Whitney’s Blog. It is impossible to walk away from her blog not feeling happy. She is honest and real. She is the real deal.

9) My favorite book, Dogtionary, by the lovely Sharon Montrose.

10) This wall display, shared by Dawn and featured in Martha Stewart, has me anxiously awaiting my local frame store’s next big sale so I can replicate it. I love it!
