Meet Erin Vey

I am a dog lover first.

A photographer second.

By some random chance of fate, I was able to combine the two loves into the coolest job ever: A Dog Photographer

I grew up in a family where dogs were always an integral part of our lives and most importantly, members of the family. Most of my childhood was spent with various Basset Hounds of the lovable but extremely stubborn variety. We never had less than 2 at any given time, sometimes 3, and the occasional stray that one of us would bring home for a visit.

After a short stint doing portrait work, which I still love, I realized my true calling is capturing the essence and personality of dogs. Upon reflection, I feel that my time doing portrait work was not wasted. Because of it, my experience with portrait work flows beautifully into working with people and their dogs.

My husband and I are owned by the fabulous Miss Gracie, a 5 year old Great Dane who brings energy and life into our house. You’ll see her around here a lot, she loves having her portrait taken (at least I like to think so). She is a complete Diva and if you stick around long enough, you'll know what I'm talking about!

What an amazing adventure this has been so far. I’m so glad you are here experiencing it with me.

This week I got a studio sample of a presentation box for proofs.

I work with a lot of really great vendors, but there is just something extra special about Cypress. I have talked to them multiple times on the phone and they are very nice and their presentation is impeccable. They know what they are doing and I’m a big fan!

Aren’t these stunning? I’m keeping this one for myself. It is too delicious to give away and it makes me happy sitting on my desk staring at me.

Yes that is a CAT up there! I really loved these shots of him and so did his Mom. She ordered a storyboard of him and it turned out so good!

In my past life I was a children’s photographer and sometimes I really do miss it. But I have to admit, it is nice to be able to shoot kids on my terms. When I feel like it. Here is my little neighbor who is growing up really fast. When we moved into our house 5 years ago she was painfully shy and wouldn’t talk at all. I would say things have changed now :)

Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday! I think someone might be planning her costume already :)

Gracie and I are trying to decide what to be for Halloween. Right now our top choice is Laverne + Shirley!

anja - Cool Stuff!

Jess Kamm - I'm so glad you shared the proof box with us, I just ordered one from another company...but I want to try Cypress out too!

Erin - Sarah - When I ordered it, I had to have it custom ordered because it wasn't on their pricelist...but rumor has it that they offer it now, it just isn't on their price list yet. I would call them directly and order it on the phone. It is so much easier than their form.

Sarah Holland - I LOVE that proof box! I'm checking out the cypress website now - is the one you posted the small proof presentation box? It doesn't look large enough to hold 200-500 prints, but I can't figure out what else it would be. Thanks!! :)

Emilee - The presentation box is gorgeous! Your clients will love them. You have to post some pictures of what you and Gracie end up looking like for Halloween! :D

Erin - Hi Emily! I have my pro lab add the white border automatically. They do a really awesome job. Gracie was a Redmond High School Cheerleader last year. She wanted to be a softball player but her chest was so big she couldn't button the uniform.

Emily - Those Cypress boxes are really gorgeous! I'm going to have to try one out myself. And can I ask about the white borders on your prints? I LOVE that! Do you insert the border digitally before having them printed, or does your printer offer that option?

Gari-Ann - Aw, the kitty pics turned out so cute!

Jennifer - wow - the cypress box is very impressive...checking them out right now!! oh and i agree with frances...gracie would look good with and 'l' on her chest!
