Dog Photographer Erin Vey bio picture

Meet Erin Vey

I am a dog lover first.

A photographer second.

By some random chance of fate, I was able to combine the two loves into the coolest job ever: A Dog Photographer

I grew up in a family where dogs were always an integral part of our lives and most importantly, members of the family. Most of my childhood was spent with various Basset Hounds of the lovable but extremely stubborn variety. We never had less than 2 at any given time, sometimes 3, and the occasional stray that one of us would bring home for a visit.

After a short stint doing portrait work, which I still love, I realized my true calling is capturing the essence and personality of dogs. Upon reflection, I feel that my time doing portrait work was not wasted. Because of it, my experience with portrait work flows beautifully into working with people and their dogs.

My husband and I are owned by the fabulous Miss Gracie, a 5 year old Great Dane who brings energy and life into our house. You’ll see her around here a lot, she loves having her portrait taken (at least I like to think so).  She is a complete Diva and if you stick around long enough, you'll know what I'm talking about!

What an amazing adventure this has been so far. I’m so glad you are here experiencing it with me.

Believe

It’s time to schedule a few more women for my Believe series!

This project is about feeling beautiful as you are today, not when you lose the weight, or your skin clears up, or whatever insecurity you may have. It’s about flattering angles, soft/natural light, and simple expressions.

Please send an email to studio@erinvey.com and tell me why you would like to participate in the project. Please also include a picture of yourself. Why a picture? I really want to ensure that I portray a diverse selection of women and this will help me organize myself a bit better. All shapes, all sizes, all colors, all ages, are warmly welcomed to apply.

You don’t have to be local to Seattle. If you find yourself headed to Seattle and want to participate, let me know and we’ll see if we can’t fit you in!

Erin - Great suggestions! But since this is free, they need to come to me :)

Amanda Snyder - Oooh - what about setting up your 'location' when you're in San Diego - at the beach (Do you think we want you to come down for a visit soon! :-)

Riley Kimball - Hi Erin, First off I love your blog, your photography, and your spirit. Keep up the good work. I have a suggestion for the believe project. You could set up a make-shift studio on location and make this an interactive project. I recently did this at a gallery during an art walk and I had more than enough willing subjects for my project. It gave me a broader base because they didn't have to come to the studio, the studio came to them. woof! -Riley
