Dog Photographer Erin Vey bio picture

Meet Erin Vey

I am a dog lover first.

A photographer second.

By some random chance of fate, I was able to combine the two loves into the coolest job ever: A Dog Photographer

I grew up in a family where dogs were always an integral part of our lives and most importantly, members of the family. Most of my childhood was spent with various Basset Hounds of the lovable but extremely stubborn variety. We never had less than 2 at any given time, sometimes 3, and the occasional stray that one of us would bring home for a visit.

After a short stint doing portrait work, which I still love, I realized my true calling is capturing the essence and personality of dogs. Upon reflection, I feel that my time doing portrait work was not wasted. Because of it, my experience with portrait work flows beautifully into working with people and their dogs.

My husband and I are owned by the fabulous Miss Gracie, a 5 year old Great Dane who brings energy and life into our house. You’ll see her around here a lot, she loves having her portrait taken (at least I like to think so).  She is a complete Diva and if you stick around long enough, you'll know what I'm talking about!

What an amazing adventure this has been so far. I’m so glad you are here experiencing it with me.

The Chai Story

There are a few things I have come to believe as truths in my life:

1) If you are willing to work hard enough for something, you can achieve it.
2) One person can make a difference.

Are you willing to spend a few short minutes to read this completely horrific and heartbreaking story?

Are you someone who has connections to make sure that a recall takes place?

I have to believe that there is at least one person that reads this small little blog that can help to make this happen.

It would mean the world to so many pet owners. Put yourself in the place of Chai’s owners and think about what you would do if you were in their place. It is absolutely imperative that this does not happen to another pet.

Ever.

Kim - This is horrible! Thanks for sharing & I'll do what I can to spread the word!

Shannon - Thank you for sharing this story. I am going to spread the word to all my peeps. I can't imagine anything like this happening to my Chance.

Bernie Berlin - I was searching the web for Chai's story and found you by accident.. I'm thinking it wasn't an accident though:) Will be posting about Chai and the toy today to my blog. LOVE your website and photography!!! Glad to have found another artist/animal lover!!! My Best to you.. Bernie "A Place To Bark"

Anonymous - I've passed this on to all my dog loving friends and family~ it is great to see that something is finally being done to get this product off of store shelves. Bless sweet Chai! Found your site this week and spent a whole afternoon going through all your archives~ I heart your work and your sweet Gracie! I had a Gracie dog who passed away last year and your sweet girl made me smile. Thanks!

Stacey - Thank you for sharing this information. I knew you'd have a heart for it and who better to spread the news? I'm keeping Chai and all of the other doggies in my thoughts.

Emilee - I read this story a few days ago, and it broke my heart. I couldn't finish the video of Chai in pain because I was tearing up. I pray that no other dog owners have to experience this!

Sara - YEA! As of now they have stopped shipment of these toys, and are asking retailers to immediately remove from their shelves! JOB WELL DONE :)

Jennifer Kitrosser - that story is so sad. i sent the boycott email and i’m emailing everyone I know as well. thanks for the post!

Kim Hayes - that's heartbreaking! i sent the boycott email- and now i'm emailing everyone I know. thanks for the post!

Skinny Monkey - Posted! Sometimes to make a difference we have to see the ugly side to make things right. After losing our dog because the carelessness of others it's not something we'd stand for not to spread the word. My thoughts are with Chai and his parents.

Rob - Now with correct URL!

Rob - I'll go ahead and add something to my homepage as well. This is just terrible. A toy should never hurt.

Veronique - How sad. I shed a tear and also sent an email.

claire - i sent a boycott email immediately. what a completely heartbreaking story - and worse even that the company isn't doing what they should do to prevent this from happening again. from now on i'll be double checking all toys i give my dog to make sure there's no vacuum seal...

Irma - How awful. Simply horrible. I read the story, but couldn't bring myself to look at the video and see that poor dog suffering. I have 3 dogs of my own and thank you for the warning.

Chung Nguyen - This is very, very upsetting, especially the company's response or lack thereof.

wendy - I heard the other day, that I recall has already happened but I haven't checked to make sure. I have a friend who works at a pet store and after hearing the story, she looked around the store and they had 4 other toys (different manufacturers) that also only had one hole.... Scary.

Angele - That is so horrible :( Oh my god. I want to hug poor Chai. :(
