Dog Photographer Erin Vey bio picture

Meet Erin Vey

I am a dog lover first.

A photographer second.

By some random chance of fate, I was able to combine the two loves into the coolest job ever: A Dog Photographer

I grew up in a family where dogs were always an integral part of our lives and most importantly, members of the family. Most of my childhood was spent with various Basset Hounds of the lovable but extremely stubborn variety. We never had less than 2 at any given time, sometimes 3, and the occasional stray that one of us would bring home for a visit.

After a short stint doing portrait work, which I still love, I realized my true calling is capturing the essence and personality of dogs. Upon reflection, I feel that my time doing portrait work was not wasted. Because of it, my experience with portrait work flows beautifully into working with people and their dogs.

My husband and I are owned by the fabulous Miss Gracie, a 5 year old Great Dane who brings energy and life into our house. You’ll see her around here a lot, she loves having her portrait taken (at least I like to think so).  She is a complete Diva and if you stick around long enough, you'll know what I'm talking about!

What an amazing adventure this has been so far. I’m so glad you are here experiencing it with me.

Friends

I think it is safe to say that I have been shying away from studio work for far too long. So if I want to continue to shoot throughout the year, this means I need to have options. As to how I am going to use this option is still yet to be determined.

Always up for a challenge, I have been refining my studio set up in preparation for the best of the Seattle winter.

My friends are so good to me. Melissa graciously volunteered to model for me. Gracie, who was originally supposed to be on the sidelines, was having none of that as she is quite used to being front and center. The studio set up isn’t near where I want it to be, but I’m confident I’ll get there. It just takes practice (and willing models).

Here are a few shots of Gracie + Melissa

Craig - These look great! I'm also curious about your studio setup.

Casia Fletcher - Hey Erin... can you do a post on what you use in your studio. Lights, backdrops, any tips. Sort of a 'What's in Erin's studio' instead of 'gear bag'! Would love to see it all! Great experimenting & compositions. Love the first image!

Angel - I really love your photography, the composition of the image and color are always fabulous. I'm an amatuer photographer just now starting to try and use my skills for images other people want. I have always wanted to work with animals, hopefully one day I'll see that dream come true.
