Middle Aged Gracie

We had to take Miss Gracie to the vet earlier this week for a lump we found in her side. Gracie is a lumpy girl, having already gone through 2 surgeries on the table (awake!) with novacaine to remove subcutaneous cysts, so we weren’t too worried.

This one is different. The vet did an aspiration and told us it is a fatty tumor and most likely benign. We are going to watch it for 3 months to ensure that it doesn’t grow. We really don’t want to put her through a 3rd surgery unless it is limiting her life activities or she is in pain. Keep her in your thoughts!

Oh and she is on a diet after WAY too many 3 Dog Bakery cookies. She is up to 140 pounds!

A few more shots of Miss Gracie from the other day with a fun sloppy border.

  1. Sorry to hear about Gracie’s lipomas … hopefully that’s all they are, and I agree about no more surgeries. My previous dog to Pepa (Coco) had those morph into Mast Cell Tumors and had 3 surgeries to remove them, but they just spread more aggressively after that. So do have your vet keep an eye on those. Pepa has one, but I’ve decided that after what Coco went through the surgeries, I won’t put her through that. It’s just not worth it to physically stress the dog and have her spirit suffer. At her feisty 14 yrs of age, I can’t fathom putting her through that given what Coco went through, all to no avail… Good luck Gracie! Live Long and Prosper!

good luck on the diet, gracie! i’m surprised she’s 140…thought she was bigger based on the pictures. our gracie weighed in at 140 a while back and the vet told us to put her on a diet- but she never lost any weight! i guess she just likes a little junk in the trunk. : )

Vibes your way, Erin. Gracie is a doll - she is such an adorable dog. I hope that all is OK with her.

  4. Awww, we will definitely be sending some positive vibes your way!

:( poor Gracie. She will be in my thoughts. It is always so scary when we are reminded that they are not invincible.

I’ve been looking at your pictures of Miss Gracie for so long that I feel like I know her. Looking at her moods and antics are certainly an anticipated part of my day. I truly hope that Gracie returns home quickly and returns to her favorite places and that I get to see more of her sweet goofiness.

  7. Zoey’s a lumpy girl too. We had a few lumps aspirated also, and they are just fatty tumors. I found when she is slightly overweight, the lumps are much more exaggerated! Zoey needs to lose about 5-10 pounds right now.

We have a 100+ lab, and had to put her on a diet last January after the vets told us she was at a high risk for diabetes. So we know how scary it can be–I’m sure Gracie will be okay, she’s got great parents :)

Erin, HUGS to you and Miss Gracie girl! I’ll send happy positive vibes and prayers for her! My Chester is 7 and hasn’t had the best diagnosis recently. If you happen to have some extra positive thoughts laying around, he could use ‘em too! LOL

  10. Gracie’s in our thoughts. Jingles and Cooley send an ear nibble and a butt sniff.

miss gracie — we love you, bumps and all. sending you get well soon smoochies from milo (he barks because he cares). maybe a new collar will cheer you up? tell your mom i will make one this weekend. :)

  14. Emilee   -

Aw, hopefully it won’t grow. Our neighbor dog is old, fat, and has a bunch of those fatty tumors, but they haven’t hindered her in any way. And don’t be upset Gracie, Buddy’s on a diet, too!

  15. Amanda Harris   -

3 dog bakery IS pretty hard to resist :) Hope she is doing ok!

  16. Beth   -

I’m sure Gracie will be fine. My Kels has had those lumpy bumpies removed also & all have been non-cancer.

??sloppy boarders….do you make them yourself or buy them online? could you post the link if you do purchase them..

    thanks!

  17. Erin   -

Awww, sweet Gracie. I’ll be praying for you.

  18. Chin wrinkles are my favorite — I love them more than “think wrinkles” on the forehead. My Lab’s got the chin wrinkles and I can never resist sneaking a peek at them when I’m laying on the floor chilling out with the dogs. Thanks for all the Gracie this week - I’m in heaven! ;)

  19. Jill   -

aww, sweet girl, I hope she doesn’t have to go through another surgery.

  20. Lassie   -

So sorry to hear about that D: Gracie is going to be absolutely fine though, she has too many people rooting for her ; )

And shes not fat - she has some healthy flubber <3

Aww…I’m sorry to hear that! I have a short haired dog too (Vizsla) and we see all the bumps. We found and removed 3 mast cell tumors from her leg in February, but every new bump makes me nervous.

    GL!
