Dog Photographer Erin Vey bio picture

Meet Erin Vey

I am a dog lover first.

A photographer second.

By some random chance of fate, I was able to combine the two loves into the coolest job ever: A Dog Photographer

I grew up in a family where dogs were always an integral part of our lives and most importantly, members of the family. Most of my childhood was spent with various Basset Hounds of the lovable but extremely stubborn variety. We never had less than 2 at any given time, sometimes 3, and the occasional stray that one of us would bring home for a visit.

After a short stint doing portrait work, which I still love, I realized my true calling is capturing the essence and personality of dogs. Upon reflection, I feel that my time doing portrait work was not wasted. Because of it, my experience with portrait work flows beautifully into working with people and their dogs.

My husband and I are owned by the fabulous Miss Gracie, a 5 year old Great Dane who brings energy and life into our house. You’ll see her around here a lot, she loves having her portrait taken (at least I like to think so).  She is a complete Diva and if you stick around long enough, you'll know what I'm talking about!

What an amazing adventure this has been so far. I’m so glad you are here experiencing it with me.

Birdhouse or Squirrelhouse

This birdhouse is actually on our neighbors property but it faces our backyard. It gets a lot of use during the spring. Not only for birds, but last year we saw a squirrel family in there. I’ll never forget the day the mama squirrel popped her head out with her hairless baby in its mouth. Not a pretty sight. She looked at me, headed down the post, and off she went. Gracie happened to see that too and went racing off after her.

She is obsessed with squirrels and I’m convinced they are obsessed with her too. They taunt her by hanging out on the fence posts waiting for her to come outside.

We were outside the other day, and I laughed because I saw her staring intently at the house and I had to take a shot of her. I actually really love that shot. It tells a great story. But my new blog format doesn’t look as pretty with just one vertical image, so I threw in one of her being a poser as well.

Ignore the chickenwire. We are trying to grow our grass back. Trying. Seattle hasn’t caught on yet that it is spring.

holly - jack chases them up trees and i swear the dog will climb the tree one day!

danielle - Oh, I beg to differ. I see *green* grass and lovely green fuzzy buds on the trees in that picture. :-) It's Minneapolis that doesn't know it's spring--I caught some pictures of our snowstorm on 3/30 out my office. This is what "not spring" really looks like. :-)
